Add it to an activity
- Install Big & Clear Activity from Connect IQ and sync your watch.
- Open the activity where you want the large value, then Activity Settings → Data Screens.
- Add the field and choose a one-field layout when readability is the priority. Garmin may provide smaller layouts with less room.
- Open the field settings and choose the metric, color scheme and label visibility.
Choose a metric
- Pace: follows the watch's metric/imperial distance setting and shows a pace per km or mile.
- Heart rate: uses the activity's currentHeartRate value from Garmin's live activity context. This is the current workout metric, unlike the history sample used by the Big & Clear watch face.
- Speed: follows the watch distance unit.
- Distance: follows the watch distance unit.
- Timer, cadence or time of day: available as additional choices. The time-of-day option follows the watch's 12/24-hour setting.
Make it readable
- Color scheme: Auto (match the watch), white on black, yellow on black, cyan on black, green on black or black on white.
- Metric label: keep it on when context matters; turn it off to give the number more vertical room in a short slot.
- The renderer measures the value and picks the largest numeric font that fits the slot. It does not make a second metric smaller just to add more information.
Missing values and units
When Garmin does not provide a current value, the field shows an unavailable marker such as -- or --:--. Pace needs a usable speed; cadence may be zero or unavailable while stopped. Distance uses Garmin's metric/imperial preference.
0.00 in the distance formatter. Treat that value at the beginning of an activity as “not available yet,” not as proof that you have travelled zero distance. This is a documented limitation under review.Layouts and Venu Sq
The field is designed to be largest in a one-field activity screen. In half, small or curved slots Garmin can reserve less safe area, and obscured edges can force a smaller font or a hidden label.
Troubleshooting
The field is not listed
Sync Connect IQ, confirm that the activity supports Connect IQ data fields, and add it from Data Screens. The app itself has no phone account or network dependency.
Heart rate is blank
Garmin has not supplied a current activity heart-rate value. Check that the activity is running and that the watch is receiving its normal heart-rate source; the field does not substitute the watch-face history value.
The number is too small
Use a one-field layout, disable the label and choose a shorter metric. If a rectangular device still clips, report it rather than treating it as a sensor or unit problem.

Include model, firmware, activity type, layout size, metric, units and the exact value/screen you saw. FIT files and personal data are not needed for a first report. Contact support.
