HillFactor

Cumulative Naismith pacing with an explicit ahead, on-target or behind result.

Privacy: HillFactor has no account or network connection. Its only permission writes the optional factor chart into your activity FIT file.

Add and configure it

  1. Install HillFactor, then open a compatible Hike, Trail Run, Run, Walk or similar activity.
  2. In Activity Settings, add HillFactor to a data screen. A one-field layout gives it the largest display.
  3. In Connect IQ settings, choose a target factor from 25% to 200%, whether to show the time delta, and the contrast mode.

Read the result

A lower factor means faster progress. At a 100% target, a negative delta means you are ahead of the classic Naismith estimate; a positive delta means behind. The field waits for at least 200 m and 120 seconds of estimated Naismith effort before assigning a status.

Limits

HillFactor uses elapsed time, distance and accumulated ascent supplied by the active Garmin profile. It is not navigation, a safety tool or a guaranteed finish-time predictor. The classic model does not account for descent, terrain, weather, fatigue or individual fitness.

Troubleshooting

  • No value: wait for the activity to provide enough valid distance, ascent and time.
  • Unexpected ascent: check the watch elevation source and activity profile; the app cannot repair incorrect elevation input.
  • No chart after saving: confirm the Fitness & Sensor Data permission and look for the Connect IQ developer field in Garmin Connect.
